Alp-X East-West Route

The classic route starts in the east and you ‘work your way to the sea’. When finding the route, I naturally orientated myself on the existing railway network and then added a few ski resorts that I had always wanted to visit for skiing. And of course I didn't want to go to the same places that I had already used as stages on my crossing of the Alps from west to east.

Alp-X east-west route with return journey to Hamburg by train

Unfortunately, the east-west route is a little more complicated towards the end than the west-east route. This is because the train connections in France away from the main routes are really not good. You can't get to the big ski resorts like Les 2 Alpes by train at all, ski buses only run once or twice a day and, above all, you can't get away from there. That may change if the ski resorts of Les Sybelles and Alp d'Huez are actually connected by cable car, then I would take a different route.

But at some point the route was finalised and was implemented at the beginning of March 2025:

Sponsors

The mountain railway operators and the ski resorts themselves are much more advanced than us skiers when it comes to travelling. With the exception of one ski resort, all of the mountain railways that I wrote to for support were fully on board and immediately involved. The mountain railways are ready for a change, it really is up to us skiers to make a contribution to reducing CO2 emissions when travelling. I would like to thank the supporters and sponsors for Alp-X 2025:
